The former National Football League famous quarterback Joe Namath did a pantyhose TV ad for which company?
Former National Football League (NFL ) quarterback Joe Namath was a superstar celebrity during the 1960s and 1970s. "Broadway Joe", as he was called, became a Super Bowl champion and Super Bowl III MVP quarterback with the New York Jets in the NFL.
The US media adored this football player, as evidenced by classic poolside photos taken before his Super Bowl game. He starred on TV in numerous shows. It wasn't until after his iconic 'Sports Illustrated' cover that people began calling him "Broadway Joe" instead of "Joe Willie Namath".
Namath broke down barriers on what it meant to be a Pro Football Hall of Fame quarterback. He did what he wanted and wore what he wanted under the bright lights of New York City, and the ladies loved him for it.
One of the better example of Namath's persona concerns him starring in a pantyhose commercial. Yes, one of the greatest NFL quarterbacks of all time was filmed wearing the women's garment. He ended up being successful wearing them in the ad.
The ad was for Hanes' Beauty Mist pantyhose and it was considered controversial for its cross-dressing aspect when it was released in 1973. The commercial, however, ends with Namath receiving a kiss from a woman, proving that pantyhose make someone desirable no matter the gender.
In the ad, the camera pans from Namath's pantyhose-covered legs all the way to his face before he proclaims why viewers should buy the Hanes' article of clothing. This commercial turned out to be pure genius.
