Prometheus is the son of the Titans Iapetus and Clymene. And according to Greek mythology, he was the one who created humans from clay. Prometheus, a Titan, had no fondness for gods, who imprisoned many of his kind in Tartarus, but he felt pity for humans. So, he would eventually steal burning coals from Olympus in order to provide humans with fire, which would give them more power.

But Zeus, the king of Olympus, infuriated by Prometheus’s actions, bound him to a rock, where an eagle would come, and feed on his liver. His liver would grow back overnight, only to be eaten again the next day in an ongoing cycle. After some time, Zeus’ son Heracles, with his father’s permission, shot the eagle and freed Prometheus. The Titan afterwards made peace with his savior’s father.
