Madonna Louise Ciccone, commonly known as Madonna (born 1958) is an American singer-songwriter who, as of 2021, has had 13 UK Official Singles Chart Number Ones. These include 'Into The Groove', 'Papa Don’t Preach', 'Like A Prayer', 'Vogue', and 'Hung Up'. During her career, she has sold over 300 million records worldwide. Madonna has also had 12 UK Official Album Chart Number Ones.

As well as releasing singles and albums, Madonna starred in films, including 'Desperately Seeking Susan', 'Evita' and 'Swept Away'. For these roles and others, Madonna has won two BRIT Awards and seven Grammys. She has also won Academy Awards, Golden Globes and is a member of the UK and US Rock and Roll Halls of Fame.

Born in Michigan, Madonna moved to New York City in 1978 to pursue a dance career. She performed as a drummer, guitarist, and singer for the rock bands Breakfast Club and Emmy. She eventually made her name as a solo singer following the release of her debut album 'Madonna' in 1983.
