Oscar Greeley Clendenning Hammerstein II (July 12, 1895 – August 23, 1960) was an American lyricist, librettist, theatrical producer, and (usually uncredited) director in the musical theater for almost 40 years. He won eight Tony Awards and two Academy Awards for 'Best Original Song'. Many of his songs are standard repertoire for vocalists and jazz musicians. He co-wrote 850 songs.

His father, William, managed a vaudeville theater, while his grandfather, Oscar Hammerstein I, was a famed opera impresario.

He is the only person named 'Oscar' to win at the Academy Awards. He was co-winner of two Oscar awards in the Best Original Song category. He won his first Oscar for the song 'The Last Time I Saw Paris' in the film 'Lady Be Good' in 1942 and in 1945 for "It Might as Well Be Spring" in the film in 'State Fair'. Interestingly, actor Oskar Werner was once nominated for Best Actor at the event in 1966.
