At the 19th Academy Awards which actress won the award for best actress?
Held on March 13th 1947 at the Shrine Auditorium, Los Angeles, California, the Tokyo born British/American actress Olivia de Havilland took the award for her role as Jody Norris in 'To Each His Own'.
Olivia beat her fellow actresses Celia Johnson, Jennifer Jones, Jane Wyman and Rosalind Russell to take the award.
The big winner that year had been 'The Best Years of Our Lives' a drama film directed by William Wyler and starred Myrna Loy, Frederic March, Dana Andrews, Teresa Wright and Virginia Mayo. March won the best actor award.
Olivia would win two Academy Awards during her career the second in 1949 for her role in 'The Heiress', but she was however nominated five times.

Guessed right. I've watched a lot of old movies, but never watched either mentioned.

She gave the longest acceptance speech in the history of the Oscars. I believe it was just over an hour. Because of that, recipientes were asked to keep speeches at a minimum.
