Can you name the first public university in the U.S.?

It was founded on the 27th of January, 1785

Besides being the oldest public university, UGA is also the second largest university of the state. That is why it is organized into 17 schools and colleges. As a bonus, it owns four residential and research centers, three of which are international.

This year the University is celebrating its 231st anniversary. Impressive, isn't it?

The title of oldest public university in the United States is claimed by three universities: the University of Georgia, the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and The College of William and Mary. Each has a distinct basis for the claim: North Carolina being the first to hold classes and graduate students, Georgia being the first created by state charter, and William & Mary having the oldest founding date of any currently public university, though it was private for over 250 years.
