Chickens float like ducks and instinctively know how to swim.

Although they do not particularly like water, chickens are able to swim. They can float and paddle just like a duck and swim their way to safety. No need for the webbed feet, they are capable swimming creatures all the same. Many try to argue that there is no way that this is possible, but it has been proven time and again, that these animals can swim if necessary.

I and my chicken keeping neighbour have a canal at the bottom of our gardens. Believe me his chickens can't swim! I have seen them drown.

Just plain wrong! Chickens don't have webbed feet and even more important, their feather structure is different so they just get weighted down and they DROWN! Does anyone check these FACTS??

Wrong answer. Ducks float forever, chicken feathers don't have oil and get water logged and they drown.

No they can swim but NOT just like ducks. Plus their feathers will quickly become waterlogged and they sink. Ducks do not swim like that and their feathers do not get waterlogged

My daughter raises chickens and they can not swim. The feathers fill with water and they drown. I missed this question, I called my daughter first, she said answer would be false.

I believe the answer is false based on the way the question is worded. Chickens don't"float like ducks, because ducks have oil on their feathers which makes this possible. Chickens do not, and when their feathers are saturated, they sink to the bottom and drown. I want the 5 points added to my total!

question ids tricky and it seems to me true or false can be correct answer. Chickens can swim, but not for long periods of time like ducks. Chicken feathers become waterlogged and they drown if they are in water for a long period of time. Why this very, very old question which causes an uproar 8 years ago was permitted is bizarre.

for ducks, it's just their natural way of being. not true of chickens. any living thing can and will swim if necessary.

I grew up around chickens, and had no water available to experiment. The only water we ever put them in was boiling water, AFTER my dad killed them. I guess it was easier to pluck the feathers that way. Plus, they didn't even try to swim away!

honini, If they are in water and their feet are not able to touch the bottom, then it would be difficult for them, so putting them in a bucket with water of course they're known to drown. People say sheep are dumb, chickens are certainly dumber
