David Bowie was an English rock star, whose glittering career spanned six decades and made him one of the greatest artists in history. His dramatic musical transformations were always strange yet attractive, as well as his glorious hits. In 1996, Bowie was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Bowie died at the age of 69, just two days after his birthday and the release of his last album.

The artist left an impressive legacy behind him, as he released 26 great albums. Bowie started his prolific career in the early 60's, and the single "The Laughing Gnome", released on the 14th of April, 1967, became one of his first and most famous novelty songs.

This pastiche of songs by one of Bowie's early influences, Anthony Newley, it was originally released as a novelty single on Deram Records in 1967. The track consisted of the singer meeting and conversing with the creature of the title, whose sped-up voice (created by Bowie and studio engineer Gus Dudgeon) delivered several puns on the word "gnome".
