Did Muhammad Ali and Sonny Liston have a second fight for the Heavyweight Boxing Championship?

What is known as the 'Phantom/Anchor Punch', of the second match between Sonny Liston vs Muhammad Ali. Took place on May 25, 1965 in Lewistown, Maine.

To this day, the ending of the second Ali - Liston fight remains one of the most controversial in boxing history. Midway through the first round, Liston threw a left jab and Ali went over it with a fast right, knocking the former champion down on his back. Liston rolled over, got up on his right knee and fell on his back again. Many in attendance did not see Ali deliver the punch. The fight quickly descended into chaos. Referee Jersey Joe Walcott, a former World Heavyweight Champion himself, had a hard time getting Ali to go to a neutral corner. Ali initially stood over his fallen opponent, gesturing and yelling, "Get up and fight sucker"!

Ali was awarded a first round knockout victory.

I have watched a tape of this fight, in black and white of course. And I did see Ali deliver the fast right to Liston's face.

I listened to that fight on radio, if you can call a fight that lasted one minute and 45 seconds much of a fight. But no, Joel Burns, the "fix" was not in, and there has never been any actual evidence that it was. Ali was arguably the greatest boxer who ever lived, and took Liston down bang, like that! He did not need the fight to be fixed. As for you, Donna Smith, you don't know what you're talking about. Maybe you're confusing it with either "professional" wrestling or Republican politics.

Wrong. There was no fight between Muhammad Ali and Sony Liston. There was,however, a fight between Cassius Clay and Sony Liston.

Andy the educated troglodyte, Can't see other replies so don't know if someone else has said this but the other choices were put in as decoys. It was therefore one of the much hated true / false questions. The author, DHL, is probably a new name on the Admin spectrum, so questions submitted by them don't go through the review process. 🙄🙄

Remember it well. I had an "argument" with one of my teachers, who declared that Liston would kill Ali. "NO" I said. It will be a replay of the first fight. I have no idea why I was so sure of what the result would be.

People are complaining that other names are in the yes/no answer. Yet people are complaining if it's just yes/no answer. Wish they would either make up their minds what they want or just stop complaining
