Each act named has recorded "Good Morning Little Schoolgirl" but only Rod Stewart has recorded it as a debut single A-side (which didn't chart). He did this in 1964 with Decca Records as a 19 year old upon his return to the U.K. after busking in Europe, spells playing with Jimmy Powell and the Five Dimensions, before moving to London and becoming the harp player with John Baldry’s “Hoochie Coochie Men”.

“Good Morning, School Girl" is a blues standard associated with Chicago blues vocalist and harmonica pioneer John Lee "Sonny Boy" Williamson, who first recorded it in 1937. Subsequently, a variety of artists recorded versions of the song, usually calling it "Good Morning Little Schoolgirl" - John Lee Hooker, Lightnin' Hopkins, Mississippi Fred McDowell, Muddy Waters, and others in the late 1950s and early 1960s. In 1967 The Grateful Dead released a recorded version. McDowell included a 1971 performance on the album “Live in New York” and in 1978, Muddy Waters recorded an updated rendition for his album “I'm Ready”.
