"Holocene" covers which geological period?

The Holocene is the geological epoch that began after the Pleistocene at approximately 11,700 years before AD 2000 and continues to the present.

The term "Recent" (usually capitalised) has often been used as an exact synonym of "Holocene", although this usage is discouraged in 21st-century work. The Holocene is part of the Quaternary period. Its name comes from the Greek words "holos" (whole or entire) and "kainos" (new), meaning "entirely recent".

The picture is from the film Planet of the Apes. Which was based on a book called Monkey Planet written in French by Pierre Boule. In the original the astronaut sees the Effel tower. Effel was also key in the construction of the Statue of Liberty.

In July 2018, the International Union of Geological Sciences split the Holocene Epoch into three distinct ages based on the climate, Greenlandian (11,700 years ago to 8,200 years ago), Northgrippian (8,200 years ago to 4,200 years ago) and Meghalayan (4,200 years ago to the present), as proposed by International Commission on Stratigraphy. -> still present
