How long did the War of 1812 actually last?
The War of 1812 actually lasted for thirty-two months (2 full years and approximately 8 months). The United States declared war on Britain on June 19,1812. The Treaty of Ghent, signed on December 25, 1814, effectively ended the War of 1812. However, it was not until February 1815, after the Battle of New Orleans, that major fighting between armed forces stopped. The Battle of New Orleans was seen as the final battle.

Britain effectively won the War of 1812 by successfully defending its North American colonies. For the British, the war with America was a mere sideshow compared to its life-or-death struggle with Napoleon in Europe.

macflip, when Rhodesia declared independence from Britain on 11 November 1965, the Americans were quick to condemn them. They declared economic sanctions and played their part, along with Britain and other Commonwealth countries, in bringing Mugabe to power in 1980. We all know what a success that has been!
