The people who got this wrong are not stupid or uneducated. They most likely come from a country that only uses the metric system and they are not familiar with the imperial measurements as we are in the USA. I bet most Americans would screw up every minor measurement in metric as to how big a litre or gram is, or all the other measurements, so if they asked a question like that, I'm quite certain that most Americans would have gotten it completely wrong. A worldwide score of 12% wrong is actually rather low considering how many people in the world use the metric system only and not imperial. So before people start assuming that other quizzclub members are stupid or uneducated, remember, culture and popular knowledge is different everywhere you go. Please have some respect for people from different countries and cultures.

The answer to this question depends on how big your back yard is, and how many friends you have!

New Zealand converted to the metric system in 1966, the year I started High School. I still have difficulty imagining metric measurements. A 100mm x 50mm piece of timber is still a 4 by 2 (2 by 4 to you American people), a hand-span is 8 inches, not 200mm etc. The metric system is much easier to perform calculations in but I still belive it is not as accurate for measurement - in imperial, we had inches, 1/2, 1/4, 1/8, 1/16, 1/32, and 1/64 on a ruler, the metric ruler only has centimetres and millimetres (roughly 1/3 and 1/25 inches).

Look at the other answers, 12% missed it. I didn't think it would be that high. Chill out, it's only a game, if it is going to upset you, don't play.

Still a fair question, those who use the imperial system have to answer metric questions on here

James Cansler, Many of those who got it wrong are probably from countries (over 90%) that do not use the British (or impwrial) system - - yard, feet, pound ounce etc. Even the British don’t use it any more. Those who don’t recognize that people from other countries have no reason to know yards vs feet probably wouldn’t be helped by going back to school.

I still think we should be metric lol

A yard is 36 inches.. a metre is just over approx 39 inches.. even though I hate metric measurements as I'm too old to learn, anyone ought to know this answer..although I understand some countries have used the metric much longer than the UK. . I'm of the old school and I still work in inches, feet, and yards... It's like Centimetres I'm totally lost..

Ray Anderson, I came to NZ 1966 and we were still in imperial measurements then, I started work at Farmers just before Christmas that same year. Our money when into Dollars in 1968 and I'm pretty sure we changed the imperial about then too.

galambos, Yep 1metre is 39inches. or 3ft 3inches. and you're right been mature (older) and on holiday (retired) definitely has advantages

As a quilter I like to buy fabric in the countries I travel in. I know 1 meter is a little over a yard. That is all I need to know. Old and retired has it's advantages.

It always amazes me at how upset people get with these questions. We are all different and we all have a little knowledge about different things. Besides that hasn't anyone ever just hit the wrong button? If not. . . .you are a much better player than I am! Enjoy your day and air hugs!!

Teri Davis Newman, Unfortunately we are discovering that America is sadly lacking in education for various reasons. The number of people that I have encountered in my 74 years that lack common knowledge and common sense is appalling. I am referring to the average person working an average job, reception, waitress, sales clerk, etc. No specific degree needed but no interest in common knowledge, manners or education either. It is very sad indeed. Makes me want to rejoin Mensa just to speak with people on my intelectual level.
