If he served until earth then he wasn't impeached. An article of impeachment is only an accusation...just like in our criminal justice system, one is innocent until proven guilty....he served 7 more years after the eight articles were brought against him.

It looks like while that the U.S. House of Representatives has the gumption to impeach Presidents and Justices, the Senate has little taste for it. Only 3 Presidents impeached throughout history, 0 convicted; 1 Justice impeached, 0 convicted. It appears that there is no reason to go through the process.

Ed Bona, It removes you from office only if you are found guilty. Impeachment is merely the pressing of charges, much like an indictment. A trial is held. If the prosecution fails to prove it's case, you are found not guilty and remain in office. If the prosecution can make its case and you are found guilty, you are removed from office. That's the point.
