How many Marx brothers were there?
There were five of them: Harpo, Chico, Groucho, Gummo and Zeppo. Although Grocho, Harpo and Chico are best known to many cinnema fans, there were actually five Marx brothers. Gummo was not in any of the movies; Zeppo appeared in the first five films in pretty much straight (non-comedic) roles. Grocho had a successful television career hosting his own show, You Bet Your Life. The performing lives of the brothers were brought about by their mother Minnie Marx, who also acted as their manager.

I think the question is poorly written. Perhaps it should have been how many brothers were there in the Marx family, as I suspect most people would assume the question is about how many brothers were known as the Marx Brothers in movies?

Loved Marx bros films. Still get a laugh from me when I see occasional reruns.
I knew that apart from the 3 main brothers on screen, a fourth had also appeared in some of their films.
So why was 5 an option? A red herring or fact. I assumed the latter.

All of them had real names; Groucho and the rest were all stage names.

I heard a quote from Groucho being refused entry to an exclusive club because he is a Jew. He said he would not want to be in any club that would have him as a member.... hope that club realised what and who they missed.

Remember seeing old Marx brothers films, where three of them appeared regularly, and a fourth occasionally . Also recalled reading somewhere that there was a fifth one.
