How many states are members of the UN?

Can you imagine that there are more than two hundred independent areas inhabited by different nations? Our world presents to us so many religions, languages, traditions and cultural peculiarities and it seems that one cannot embrace it all in his or her brain. Some of these countries are not recognized as sovereign states by the UN.

According to the UN, there are 193 member states in the list now.

There are currently 193 Member States in the United Nations. Each member state is a member of the United Nations General Assembly. Perhaps you should have "anchor dated" this as the number could change at any time.

According to Info Please, there are 196 countries in the world of which 193 belong to the UN. There are a few that do not belong to the UN so I guess that if your country does not belong to the UN, your country does not have legitimacy and is not a real country. Too bad, so sad!
