The eight presidents with a moustache (plus possibly other facial hair) all held office within a 45-year window before World War 1. They were, in chronological order: (1) Ulysses S. Grant, (2) Rutherford B. Hayes, (3) James A. Garfield, (4) Chester A. Arthur, (5) Grover Cleveland, (6) Benjamin Harrison, (7) Theodore Roosevelt, (8) William Howard Taft.

I said 10 as Lincoln had a beard. Finally realized he had a beard without the usual mustache added.

Stephen Liebman, I went through them in succession but wasn't certain if Arthur's muttonchops curved into a mustache. Without Arthur, it's seven, which wasn't a choice and four was way too low, so eight was it. Van Buren had muttonchops, Taft and T. Roosevelt had big full mustaches, and Cleveland had an ordinary one that didn't say much. Harding would have looked good with a mustache.
