Dennis Anthony Tito (born August 8, 1940) is an American engineer and multimillionaire, most widely known as the first space tourist to fund his own trip into space. In mid-2001, he spent nearly eight days in orbit as a crew member of ISS EP-1, a visiting mission to the International Space Station. This mission was launched by the spacecraft Soyuz TM-32, and was landed by Soyuz TM-31.

I agree. I was going to comment the same exact thing, until I read yours. He's not just going on a pleasure cruise. There are other things that need to be done up there in the name of science. However, I did not know that this happened so long ago. 2001 really surprised me.

as I remember Tito was in space about 6 days (by Russian news) , not 8 days , people should Google first before place question.

Even though I got the correct answer, due to process of elimination, the facts are:
Tito made it to orbit, spent about six days aboard the space station, and then landed in Kazakhstan on May 6, 2001.

Space tourism is a specific kind of space travel. It is for recreational, leisure or business purposes, and tours are sold to paying spaceflight participants (if you happen to have $20–40 million laying around!) This is distinct from expedition journeys conducted and sponsored by the government(s) for exploration purposes.

Since MAN is not from 'space' then wasn't the first tourists animals and concerning humans, wasn't Yuri Gagarin the first on a short flight?
