How old was Marie Osmond when she released her first solo single "Paper Roses"?
Olive Marie Osmond (born October 13, 1959) is an American singer, actress, author, philanthropist, talk show host and a member of the show business family the Osmonds. Although she was never part of her family's singing group, she gained success as a solo country music artist in the 1970s and 1980s. Her best known song is a remake of the country pop ballad "Paper Roses". From 1976 to 1979, she and her singer brother Donny Osmond hosted the television variety show "Donny & Marie".
"Paper Roses" was the first song recorded by Marie as a solo performer, and also her first single release. The single was released in August 1973 when Marie was 13 years old. Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer (MGM) promoted the single first to country radio, and received a favorable reaction to the song from radio stations and disc jockeys. Soon the song became a hit for Osmond, going all the way to number one on the country charts. Before long, the song crossed over to pop radio as well, becoming a number 5 Pop and number 1 Easy Listening singles hit.
