It's unbelievable but in 1888 the prosperous monopoly was built by just one man (Cecil Rhodes)! By his mid-thirties he was already a billionaire. Having been a rich person deeply interested in mining, he was soon able to control De Beers mines and thus, held a dominion over ninety per cent of world's diamond output.
