Zhiguli was a brand of cars manufactured in the Soviet Union and Russia by AvtoVAZ (formerly VAZ, 'Volzhsky Avtomobilny Zavod' or 'Volga Automobile Plant') between 1970-2012. It was also manufactured in Ukraine and Egypt. The brand was named after the Zhiguli Mountains in the Volga Uplands on the border of the River Volga.

Many Zhiguli cars sold abroad were sold under the Lada brand. When the Soviet Union collapsed in 1991, several used cars were imported back into Russia. As a result, the Lada brand became well known.

Although Zhiguli cars were made until 2012, the plant abandoned the name in favour of Lada in the mid-1990s. The brand Zhiguli had supposedly become synonymous with the word 'gigolo', a term for a male escort.

One of the most popular Zhiguli cars was the VAZ-2105, known as 'Lada Riva' in the United Kingdom, Australia and New Zealand, and 'Lada Nova' in Germany. It was based on the Fiat 124, a small family car manufactured by the Italian company Fiat between 1966 and 1974.
