DNA stands for deoxyribonucleic acid. It's a molecule which contains all the genetic information needed for the functioning of a living organism. It carries instructions used in development and reproduction of all known forms of life. DNA is a nucleic acid and one of the macromolecules, irreplaceably needed for the existence of all living creatures. The others are carbohydrates, proteins & lipids. Most DNA molecules are formed as a double helix and consist of two biopolymer strands coiled around each other.

This can be interesting: Every person shares 99% of DNA with all the humans on the planet. By the way, we also share 98% of it with chimpanzee and 50% with... bananas.
