In the 1994 film "Forrest Gump", the US president which Forrest Gump does not meet is Ronald Reagan. At various times during the film, Gump is able to meet with Presidents John F. Kennedy, Lyndon B. Johnson, and Richard Nixon. In 1963 Gump meets President John F. Kennedy at the White House. Second, Gump saves several wounded platoon-mates—including his lieutenant, Dan Taylor, who loses both his legs—and is awarded the Medal of Honor for his heroism in the Vietnam War by President Lyndon B. Johnson. Finally, during 1973 Gump meets President Richard Nixon and is put up in the Watergate complex, where he accidentally exposes the Watergate scandal, forcing Nixon to resign as President of United States.

During Ronald Reagan's presidency, there were no events or situations which would have had him and Forrest Gump meeting each other. Ronald Reagan was a Republican from California, and he took office as the US President following a landslide victory over Democratic incumbent President Jimmy Carter in the 1980 presidential election. Reagan was concerned with the combination of tax cuts and an increase in defense spending which led to budget deficits. The federal debt increased significantly during Reagan's tenure.

At the beginning of the 1980s, Gump and his friend Dan become millionaires. He has to return to his home in the Southern part of America to see his mother before she dies of cancer. His life is now only concerned with family matters.
