"The Flintstones" is an American animated sitcom produced by Hanna-Barbera Productions. The series takes place in a romanticized Stone Age setting and follows the activities of the titular family, the Flintstones, and their next-door neighbors, the Rubbles. It was originally broadcast on ABC from September 30, 1960, to April 1, 1966, and was the first animated series to hold a prime-time slot on television.

In the sitcom, Fred and Barney, two of the main characters and neighbors, are members of a local social group, the Loyal Order of Water Buffaloes (Lodge No. 26). That lodge appears in at least 20 episodes of "The Flintstones." Many Bedrock residents are members of the order, though its rules forbid them to share the club's secrets with outsiders.

The Water Buffaloes are led by a "Grand Poohbah," a role that is usually held by Sam Slagheap throughout the series, although both Fred and Barney have held the title for short stints, too.
