Swahili, also known by its native name ‘Kiswahili’, is a Bantu language and native language, one of two official languages of the East African Community of countries consisting of Burundi, Kenya, Rwanda, South Sudan, Tanzania, and Uganda.

In the Swahili language, the lion is known as ‘simba’ which also means ‘aggressive’, ‘king’ and ‘strong’.

The 1984 American animated musical drama film ‘The Lion King’, tells the story of Simba, a young lion who is to succeed his father, Mufasa, as King of the Pride Lands. As a newborn, Simba is presented to the gathering animals by Rafiki, the mandrill, the kingdom’s shaman and advisor. Mufasa shows Simba the Pride Lands and explains to him the responsibilities of kingship and the “circle of life” which connects all living things.

Mufasa’s younger brother, Scar, covets the throne and plots to get rid of Mufasa and Simba so he can become king.

When Mufasa is murdered at the hands of his brother Scar, Simba must grow into the leadership role but encounters multiple challenges along the way.

Donald Glover (born 1983) is an American actor, rapper, singer, writer, comedian, director and producer who is voice-cast as the grown-up Simba, the lion who is crown prince of the Pride Lands. JD McCrary (born 2007) is the voice-cast as the young Simba. He is also an Americn actor, dancer nad singer.

The film grossed $1.663 billion globally, making it the highest grossing animated film of all time.
