Saint Petersburg is the second-largest city in Russia. It is situated on the Neva River, at the head of the Gulf of Finland on the Baltic Sea. Saint Petersburg is known as the "Cultural Capital of Russia".

The city was founded by Tsar Peter the Great on 27 May 1703 on the site of a captured Swedish fortress, and was named after apostle Saint Peter. Saint Petersburg is historically and culturally associated with the birth of the Russian Empire and Russia's entry into modern history as a European great power.

I finally got to go there a few years ago and loved it. The Hermitage museum was breathtaking. Raymond Cardona, The Florida city was founded by a Russian immigrant to Florida who began St. Petersburg as a port at the end of the RR he used to transport goods from Central Florida. He named the western RR terminus after his hometown.

Truly pointless to have ever called it Leningrad. Lenin wasn't born there, never lived there, didn't die there, and isn't even entombed there. Of course, the Soviet Union and the communist reign of terror has been dead for over 30 years, why has Lenin's body not been torched and thrown upon 'the ash heap of history'!?
