Peter Alliss (1931-2020) was an English professional golfer, who went on to become a golf commentator, television presenter, author and golf course designer. In 2012, Alliss was inducted into the World Golf Hall of Fame in the Lifetime Achievement category.

Between 1952 and 1969, Alliss won 20 professional golf tournaments. This includes the British PGA (Professional Golfers' Association) Championships, which he won a total of three times in 1957, 1962 and 1965. During his golfing career, Alliss played on eight Ryder Cup teams, winning ten times.

After his retirement as a player, Alliss became a full-time golf commentator in 1978. He soon became known as the "Voice of golf", although frequently received criticism for his harsh comments about some players.

Alliss famously gave Sean Connery golf lessons before the filming of the James Bond film 'Goldfinger' (1964). One scene in the film involved a game of golf between Bond and Auric Goldfinger at Stoke Park Golf Club in Buckinghamshire.

Peter Alliss died on 5th December 2020 at the age of 89. On hearing of his unexpected death, the director of BBC Sport, said, "Peter was the voice of golf. He transcended his sport as one of the greatest broadcasters of his generation."
