Independiente is an Argentinian professional sports club which has its headquarters and stadium in the city of Avellaneda in Greater Buenos Aires. Independiente was founded on 4 August 1904. The club is best known for its football team which is considered one of Argentina's 'Big Five' football clubs. Independiente holds a longstanding rivalry with neighbor club Racing in the Avellaneda.

Its top scorers: Arsenio Erico, the all-time Primera División (Premier League) top scorer with 295 goals. and Manuel Seoane, all-time 2nd top scorer with 241 goals.

Apart from football, other activities practised at the club are athletics, basketball, boxing, chess, field hockey, futsal, handball, gymnastics, martial arts, Pilates, roller skating, scuba diving, swimming, tennis, volleyball, water polo, and yoga. The club also has with its own school; having Pre Kindergarten, Kindergarten, Elementary and Secondary school levels.
