Leigh Whannell (b. January 1977) was the director of "Insidious: Chapter 3" (2015), a supernatural horror film, "Upgrade" (2018), a cyberpunk action film, and "The Invisible Man" (2020), a sci-fi horror film. Whannell wasn't the director of the 2013 film "Insidious: Chapter 2". This film was directed by James Wan and its screenplay was written by Whannell, based on ideas from Wan and Whannell.

"Insidious: Chapter 2" is an American supernatural horror movie that was produced by Jason Blum and Oren Peli. The film is a sequel to 2010's "Insidious", where the story in the original film centers on a couple whose son (Dalton) inexplicably enters a comatose state and becomes a vessel for malevolent entities in an astral dimension.

In the 2013 sequel, the movie stars Patrick Wilson and Rose Byrne, reprising their roles as Josh and Renai Lambert, a husband and wife who seek to uncover the secret that has left them dangerously connected to the spirit world. Now, the Lamberts are ready for their lives to return to normal. However, something still is seriously off, especially with the Josh, who -- unbeknown to Renai -- is possessed too. In order to free Josh's soul and finally defeat the malevolent forces around them, Lorraine Lambert (Barbara Hershey), the mother of Josh, mother-in-law of Renai and grandmother of Dalton, Foster and Cali, with ghost-hunting friends has to investigate the past to save her family.

This film was a very big theatrical and box office success.
