Character actor Lyle Bettger (1915–2003) did not have any kind of role in the 1952 film "The Bad and the Beautiful", an American melodrama that concerns itself with a film producer who alienates everyone around him. The film was directed by Vincente Minnelli and written by George Bradshaw and Charles Schnee. It stars Lana Turner, Kirk Douglas, Walter Pidgeon, Dick Powell, Barry Sullivan, Gloria Grahame and Gilbert Roland. "The Bad and the Beautiful" won 5 Oscars out of 6 nominations, but it was not even nominated for the Oscar for Best Picture or Best Director.

In the movie, the story concerns the unscrupulous movie producer Jonathan Shields (Kirk Douglas). He is a student of Hollywood and the movie industry who ruthlessly makes his way to the top of the studio system, discarding movie star Georgia (Lana Turner), director Fred Amiel (Barry Sullivan) and writer James Lee Bartlow (Dick Powell) along the way. Although Shields manipulates them and leaves each in despair, they find success in Hollywood, thanks in part to Shields. They have to decide whether or not they will repay him when he offers them a collaborative project.

Lyle Bettger's movie career includes playing Klaus in the 1952 film "The Greatest Show on Earth". He was also in the Westerns "Destry" (1955) and "Gunfight at the O.K. Corral" (1957). Lyle developed a reputation for playing the bad guy and excelled in villainous film roles.

Bettger was born in Philadelphia, PA and died in Atascadero, CA.
