New Amsterdam used to be the name of a city in United States

New York is a name given to the city in honor of the James II of England, the Duke of York. New York got its modern name on the 8th of September, 1664. But originally the territory belonged to the Dutch and was called New Amsterdam. In 1667 the Dutch got control of Spice Islands in exchange for giving up their claim to New York.

A true/false question, but easy to figure out. How does this pass reviewers? I used to submit questions, but they got nit-picked to death. I reviewed questions that needed corrections and got lambasted because most everyone had approved them. I've taken a long hiatus!!

New Amsterdam had a Governor named Peter Stuyvesant who had a peg leg and a stern demeanor. When he died he left his farm to the city. It is now known as The Bowery.

The question is a statement rather than a question outright. It would be better phrased as "New Amsterdam was the original name of which city in the United States?" The way the question is worded is more of a true/false question rather than a multiple choice. Does anyone review these before they are posted?
