The 1969 song "Runaway" by Del Shannon is serial killer Kurt Caldwell's favorite song on the 2021 U.S. TV series "Dexter: New Blood". In the show, Kurt is revealed to be the "Runaways Killer"; he loves to play the song on the jukebox at his truck stop location, a facility especially for truckers that includes a diner, fuel pumps, and a garage. He also fondly played the song during Lily's murder in episode 3. The bartender at the truck stop notes that Kurt plays the song roughly every two months, suggesting how often he kills.

Set 10 years after Dexter Morgan goes missing in the eye of Hurricane Laura, he is now living under an assumed name (Jim Lindsay) in Upstate New York, Iron Lake, far from his original home in Miami. "Dexter: New Blood" (2021) works hard to bring back the suspense-filled sentiment of the original "Dexter" series (2006—2013).

In the final undertaking, Dexter's (Jim) life is turned upside-down. In the first episode alone, Dexter relapses into his murderous tendencies and his long-lost son, Harrison, comes to town looking for him. By the end of "Dexter: New Blood", Dexter and the town of Iron Lake are changed forever. Dexter has a complicated relationship with the police chief, Angela Bishop (Julia Jones), while he is astutely dealing with Kurt. As with the original series, Dexter's innermost feelings are exposed, and they play a huge role in "Dexter: New Blood".
