Which of the Great Lakes is Rattlesnake Island located on?

Lake Erie is one of the five famous Great Lakes, located he upper midwest region of North America. Lake Erie is the smallest by volume and the shallowest lake among them. Rattlesnake Island is located on this lake and belongs to the so-called Lake Erie Islands group. This 85-acre island used to be inhabited by rattlesnakes, from which this piece of land got its name. Some people also believe that the name is connected with the shape of the island.

There is a Rattlesnake Island in the Lake Erie Islands group in Ottawa County, near Port Clinton, Ohio. These islands are partially visible from Cedar Point, the Roller Coast, and where Perry’s Monument is, commemorating the Battle of Lake Erie.

I lived for close to 30 years on a farm in Ohio, close to Cleveland, and never heard of this island. The only rattlesnakes that are in Ohio are in the southern and eastern part of the State, close to West Virginia and Pittsburgh. I think I was told there are mostly timber rattlers. In 30 years living on a farm, I never seen any poisonous snakes. I certainly have to google this! Interesting! 😊
