The Speaker of the House of Commons is the chief officer and highest authority of the House of Commons, the lower house and primary chamber of the Parliament of the United Kingdom. The speakership developed into its modern form—in which the holder is an impartial and apolitical officer who does not belong to any party— during the middle of the 19th century. The current (2021) holder of the office, Sir Lindsay Hoyle, was elected Speaker on 4 November 2019.

Hoyle was born and raised in Adlington, Lancashire, North West England. His personal life and political life were largely centred on Lancashire. As a member of the Labour party he served on Chorley Borough Councillor for the Adlington ward from 1980 to 1998; in 1997 he was elected as Member of Parliament for the Chorley constituency. The other answer options are the names of current and former parliamentary constituencies in Lancashire.

Lindsay Hoyle has proved to be a firm, but good-natured, Speaker of the House of Commons, serving at a particularly difficult time during the UK’s exit from the European Union and the Covid-19 pandemic. He has several pets, including a large tortoise called Maggie and a talkative African Grey parrot, which he has named Boris.
