Someone who studies earthquakes is known as who?
Actually these people study not only earthquakes but also environmental effects of the phenomenon as well. These scientists are able to evaluate the potential danger of natural disasters and they are keen on geology. For instance, every seismologist knows a lot about tsunami, volcano eruptions and oceanic/atmospheric processes.

Of course the correct answer is Seismologist! A geologist studies the formation of interesting rocks and there are no such people known as volcanologists or catastrophists!

Seismology is a branch of geology, so one could say, I suppose, that all seismologists are geologists, but not all geologists are seismologists.
