The Christmas carol 'O Holy Night' has how many verses?

'O Holy Night' is a Christmas song containing three verses created to celebrate the renovation of the church organ in the town of Roquemaure, France. The lyrics were written in 1843 by Placide Cappeau (1808-1877), a French wine merchant and poet. It was originally a poem called 'Minuit, chrétiens' ("Midnight, Christians"). The three stanzas were put to music by Adolphe Adam (1803-1856) around 1847. The song was premiered by the opera singer Emily Laurey.

The English translation of the lyrics were written by Unitarian minister John Sullivan Dwight (1813-1893) in 1855. It tells of the birth of Jesus and reflects on the redemption of mankind.

The high vocal range of the music makes it one of the most difficult Christmas songs to sing. It is usually only sung by trained professionals.
