The famous Gettysburg Address given by US President Lincoln in 1863 begins with the words "Four score and seven years ago." How many years is that?
"Four score and seven years ago" is 87 years since one score is 20 years. It referred to the start of the American Revolution in 1776.
One of the most poignant and powerful speeches in the history of the US was given by Abraham Lincoln on the 19th of November, 1863. It was the time of the American Civil War. This famous speech was delivered at the dedication of the Soldiers' National Cemetery in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, four and a half months after the Battle of Gettysburg. It took Lincoln only 2 minutes to reiterate the main ideas of equality espoused by the Declaration of Independence. He also proclaimed the Civil War as a struggle for the preservation of the Union.

Sad to say, our original form of government founded on independent sovereign States united under a subsevient central government, survived less than 80 years. Small wonder since from the first day the new government came into being, Alexander Hamilton and other Centrist made it their life's work to dismantle it, and transfer all political power to Washington.

For those of you who have said a score is 10, please quote your source.
My "source" was my 6th grade class, back in the 20th century. By then, our fathers had brought forth on this continent a new nation 9 score and 6 years before. When was I in sixth grade? To get this right, you need to know what date Lincoln referred to when he said "4 score and 7 years ago"
As of this year, we are a dozen score from the date to which Lincoln referred. Here's a stretch - how many years since I was in 6th grade?
Other sources - check the internet - my favorite way to check was by asking "Is a "score" 10?". I used Google as my search engine.

I suppose big events will roll around every year...July 1st is a good day...one year ask about Gettysburg, the next year ask about the Somme, the next the Battle of San Juan Hill...there are more....it's a shame all days aren't like July 1st.
