This is the flag for Morocco, officially the Kingdom of Morocco, which is a country in the Maghreb region of North Africa. It is the only country on the African continent that isn’t a member of the African Union – it withdrew its membership in 1984.

The land area of the country is 446 550 km². It is washed by the Mediterranean Sea on the North and by the Atlantic Ocean on the West, and is separated from Europe by the Strait of Gibraltar. Morocco shares a border only with one country – Algeria. On the South, it borders the Sahara Desert.

Geographically, the country is characterized by a rugged mountainous interior and large portions of desert.

The flag of Morocco is made of a red field with a black-bordered green pentagram which represents the Seal of Solomon. Red color of the flag is rather symbolic for the Moroccans since it represents the descent of the royal Alaouite family from the Islamic prophet Muhammad via Fatima, the wife of Ali, the fourth Muslim Caliph. This color was also was used by the Sherifs of Mecca and the Imams of Yemen. It symbolizes hardiness, bravery, strength and valor, while the green symbolizes love, joy, and hope.
