The 68020 microprocessor from Motorola was released in 1984. It was used in the Apple Macintosh II and Macintosh LC personal computers, amongst others, in the 1980s and early 90s. These personal computers would now be regarded as obsolete curiosities. But the Motorola 68020 lives on! It is also the processor used on board the French Trains å Grande Vitesse where it decodes signalling information sent to the trains through the rails. It is further being used in the flight control and radar systems of the Eurofighter Typhoon combat aircraft.
