The US gunboat USS Nashville, a naval watercraft designed for the express purpose of carrying one or more guns to bombard coastal targets, was involved in a revolution in the country of Panama. On a Caribbean military mission from May 1903–March 1904, the USS Nashville was instrumental in preventing Colombian troops in Colon from using the Panama railway system. The actions of the US gunboat ensured the success of the revolutionary junta in Panama and helped to secure a major treaty concerning the United States and its involvement in building the Panama Canal.

After the vessel's involvement in the situation in Panama, the USS Nashville returned to Boston, MA in June of 1904 and was decommissioned on the last day June.
