Which country does this flag belong to?

North Yemen and South Yemen were unified on the 22nd of May, 1990 to form the Republic of Yemen. This very flag was also adopted on that day. Actually, the flag resembles the Arab Liberation Flag of 1952, which was the inspiration for the flags of South and North Yemen and some other African flags. It was decided to choose it as a flag of a new country, as it corresponded with Yemeni beliefs, traditions and plans for the future.

The red color here symbolizes the bloodshed of martyrs and unity; the white color represents a bright and promising future; the black color doesn't let the people of Yemen forget the dark past, which is an important part of Yemen's history.

William Laughlin is right on all fronts. Ethnically, politically, culturally , historically and even geologically as part f the Arabian peninsula, Yemen not African. Also, in todays habit of self identfication, they themselves identify with the middle-east or Asian cultrure.

"Some OTHER African flags."? Yemen isn't an African country. It's in Asia on the Arabian peninsula. The word "other" is unnecessary and misleading. It implies that Yemen is also an African nation.

John W Shreve I don't know how you interpret anger in my first comment. I made a simple, factual, corrective comment. Where did you hear anger expressed? If you heard disgust and annoyance, it would have to have been in my responses to Rick Shomin and Adrian Capt'n Judge who do not argue the truth of my original comment, but instead, resort to snarkiness, personal attacks, and name calling. If you are a regular reader of these comments, you may have noticed the racism, xenophobia, sexism, and general unpleasantness of the likes of Rick Shomin. His comments generally add nothing informative to the subject at hand and are almost always sophomoric and vulgar in tone. He has earned the comebacks he gets and my undieing disrespect through his repeated pettiness and crudeness. Sometimes, to understand the attitude of my comments, one must follow the entire thread.
