Originally written in 1965 for Johnny Darrell, 'Green, Green Grass of Home' is a country song recorded by Tom Jones in 1966. It reached Number One in the UK Singles Chart on 1st December and stayed there for seven weeks, thus making it the 1966 Christmas Number One. The record also reached number one in Australia, Belgium, Ireland and Norway. Since then, it has been sung by dozens of musicians, including Dean Martin (1967), Johnny Cash (1968), Elvis Presley (1975), Katherine Jenkins (2007) and Bob Dylan (2021).

'Green, Green Grass of Home' tells the story of a man dreaming he has returned to his childhood home for the first time since childhood. He is greeted by his parents and his beloved, Mary, with whom he strolls around "the old oak tree that I used to play on". After announcing, "it's good to touch the green, green grass of home," the singer remembers he is in prison and that it is the day of his execution. He will never see the "green, green grass of home" again.
