Eccentric Hollywood actress Tippi Hedren has admitted that she "deeply regrets" allowing a fully grown lion to roam freely around her family home in the Seventies - including sleeping in daughter Melanie Griffith's bed.

The star also confessed it was "stupid beyond belief" to treat the 400lb beast like a domestic pet as it could have killed her or her family at any time.

Despite the sheer size and might of Neil the lion, Hedren insisted that he was teenage Griffith's "best friend" and that she was the subject of much conversation among the kids at school.

Tippi Hedren was a major Hollywood actress of the 1960's staring is such movies as "The Birds" and "Marine". While her daughter Melanie Griffith was a star of the 1980's and 1990's staring in such movies as "Body Double ", "Working Girl" and "Pacific Heights"
