Formed in Los Angeles, California in 1978, The Go-Go's are an American rock band, with genres consisting of new wave and pop rock.

The band has a relatively stable lineup consisting of Charlotte Caffey (7/21/1953) on lead guitar and keyboards, Belinda Carlisle (8/17/1958) on lead vocals, Gina Schock (8/31/1957) on drums, Kathy Valentine (1/7/1959) on bass guitar, and Jane Wiedlin (5/20/1958) on rhythm guitar.

Credited as Go-Go's on all of their US releases, they rose to fame during the 1980s. In 1982 the band topped the 'Billboard' album chart - a (still-unequaled) first for an all-female band writing their own material and playing their own instruments. They are widely considered the most successful all female rock band of all time. The Go-Gos have sold more than seven million records worldwide.

The Go-Go's 1981 debut album, "Beauty and the Beat" is considered one of the "cornerstone albums of US new wave", having broken the barriers and paved the way for a host of other new American acts. " Beauty and the Beat" yielded three Hot 100 hits - "Our Lips Are Sealed" and "We got the beat" (no. 2) - and, after a steady climb reached number one. The album stayed at the top for six consecutive weeks and eventually received a double platinum certification, making it one of the most successful debut album of all time.

The group went on to receive two Grammy nominations, a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame and was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2021.
