What caused the Titanic to sink?
The cause of the Titanic sinking was an iceberg which hit the ship at 23:40 on the 14th of April, 1912. The ship was about 375 miles south of Newfoundland in northern waters of the Atlantic. Actually, the Titanic was constructed to survive even with the four watertight compartments breached, but after the impact of the iceberg the six of them were filled with water. The ship broke apart and went under the water less than in 3 hours. The estimated outcome of the catastrophe is between 1.490 and 1.630 deaths.

However, now they say that the walls of the ships hull was weakened by a fire in the coal room that had erupted and was extinquished days before they set off, and when it struck the iceberg, the weakened hull could not withstand the impact. Just something I heard, when recently there was some commotion about the ending of the movie, how Jack would have survived because there was enough room on the float that Rose was on! F.Y.I. lol

Actually it was caused by two things. There was a fire burning in one of the coal bunkers that was burning even before the ship set out for it's maiden voyage. The crew knew it but the passengers were not told. This caused the metal around the coal bunker to weaken and when the ship hit the iceberg it caused a catastrophic failure.

There is a story of a Catholic not going on the Titanic because their cabin number was No 909E. I don't know if this is true or made up.

The iceberg only caused the damage to go faster, the Titanic would've sank anyway since it was being made out of cheap materials since they couldn't afford all the metals suited for a ship that size. I recommend refixing these questions for something a lot more suitable.
