A creel is a framed net weighted and baited and dropped off shore with the intent to catch lobster and crabs. They are then left for a day at sea then pulled back aboard boat and emptied and reset ready for the next haul. They have a tunnel in the side which narrows and when lobster gets in it can’t get back out again. Creels are common in Scottish harbours around the coast of Scotland - elsewhere in the British Isles they may be referred to as lobster pots.
