What is a group of dolphins called?
A group of dolphins is called a pod. A pod usually is formed of around 12 dolphins and it is the usual social group of dolphins. However, when a group of pods join in places with abundance of food, they can reach up to one thousand individuals forming a large group which is called a super pod.

Lynne Zeman, We get the police in locally if anyone tries to get close to the dolphins, they are wild animals and allowed to live in peace. Having said that they come up to within 10 feet of the shore so you shouldn't feel the need to go in with them.

Thought pods was used for whales, I suppose that they both can be a pod considering they are both mammals.

Swam with a couple dolphins in Mexico several years ago. Amazing, clearly intelligent animals. The strength of their tails was extraordinary. Hope they are well.
