What is another name for a longshoreman?
A longshoreman is a harbour worker who loads and unloads the cargo of a ship at the harbour. Another name for a longshoreman is a stevedore, from Spanish "estivador", "stuffer".
The containerization of the cargo has reduced the need of menial work in harbours, and most stevedores today operate container cranes, forklift trucks or container trailer tugs, loading and unloading the containers on and off the ships. The work is hard, but the pay is usually also good.
A beachcomber is a person who walks along a beach looking for valuable or interesting items or loot. A harbourmaster is the official responsible for enforcing the regulations of a particular harbour or port, in order to ensure the safety of navigation, the security of the harbour and the correct operation of the port facilities.
