What is Fairy Floss?
Cotton candy was first introduced as "Fairy Floss"! Even if the name is no longer in wide use, they still call cotton candy so in Australia. Also called candy floss, it rapidly became popular and loved by every sweet tooth! The first cotton candy machine was patented in 1899 and the delight was presented to the public in 1904 with incredible success.

Ahhh - fond memories of attending agricultural shows, visiting the show bag stalls, eating a pluto pup, followed with fairy floss... and then the swings, cha cha, and octopus rides. Strangely enough, I was never sick!

As an Aussie, fairy floss was a much loved treat at our local agricultural fair - called 'The Show' in most of Australia. It was on once a year but I still remember the anticipation watching the stall holder spinning it onto a stick. Yum!
