What is Haiti?

Out of all the choices you gave us to the question "Caribbean Island" is the closest to the true answer, but it is not the correct answer. It is not a Caribbean Island. The Republic of Haiti is a Caribbean country located on the western side of the island Hispaniola. The larger eastern side is the Dominican Republic. Since the question was posted during Black History Month, it would have been more interesting and enlightening to educate some of your readers that this small republic is the only nation in the western hemisphere to have defeated 3 European superpowers (Britain, France and Spain) and the only nation established to gain it's independence as the result of a slave revolt led by Touissant Louverture, a former slave and the first black general of the French Army. I was blessed to go to Haiti and continue to support the rebuilding of the republic.

To all the dummies out there. Haiti is an island nation. The first black countrsy which stands against slavery and won it freedom since 1804. Yes currently the poorest in the western but was once the richest colony in the westerns but had to pay back the french 20 billion dollars which brought it down to where it is today. This is incorrect! Haiti is only part of an island, The Dominican Republic is the larger part of the same island! So Haiti is not an island... Haites in another name for Hell...

Charles Segers, the explanation says it is an island nation, which it is. Just because it shares the island with the Dominican Republic is neither here nor there. The UK is a group of Islands called the British Isles. However the main body has THREE Island Nations in it. Wales, Scotland and, oh yeah, England!

Charles Segers, Where does it say it is an island? I see it is referred to as an “island nation” which is true. There are numerous “island nations” that share the island upon which they are located with other island nations. Am Ithe only one who gets tired of the folks who seem to come on here for the primary purpose of showing off their superior knowledge by picking apart the answer given? It’s a game folks; play it.
